Accessibility

WMSHC is committed to singing in spaces that are physically accessible. Because of the open, drop-in nature of our events, we typically cannot guarantee a scent-free space.

Below is physical accessibility information for many of the venues where we sing regularly. This list is a work in progress — we'll be adding more details over time. If you have questions about accessibility or additional information/corrections about any of these venues, please feel free to reach out to wmshc-board@googlegroups.com.

Helen Hills Hills Chapel, Northampton

The building is wheelchair accessible from the left entrance, located near reserved parking. The singing area is on the floor of the chapel on the main level. There is an elevator to the restrooms on the lower level, including an accessible single-stall room. Doorways are as narrow as 36 inches.

Amherst College Alumni House

There are a few low steps to enter this single-story building. Restrooms are gendered and are not ADA-compliant.

Amherst College Octagon

This historic building has a heavy door and the main singing space is up 2 flights of stairs (we sometimes have access to a first-floor room that requires only a few steps). Restrooms are gendered, are not ADA-compliant, and are down 2+ flights of stairs from the main singing space. We sing in this space only as a last resort when accessible spaces are unavailable.

First Congregational Church, Sunderland

The single-story building has a ramp at the side of the building. There is an accessible single-stall restroom.

Old Meeting House, Granville

There is a ramp at the side entrance of this single-story building. There are raised platforms (1 step up) at the sides of the singing space, where food and drinks are typically placed. The single-stall restrooms are not ADA-compliant.

Center for the Arts, Northampton

This building has a ramp to the front door and an elevator in the building. The accessible multi-stall restrooms are all-gender.
